Frequently Asked Questions
Vacuum Component Selection
These answers provide general guidance. Final selection should consider the complete operating conditions of your system.
What is the difference between KF, ISO and CF vacuum flanges?+
KF connections are compact and quick to assemble using a centering ring and clamp. ISO flanges follow a similar elastomer-sealed principle for larger nominal diameters and use claw or wall clamps. CF connections use a metal gasket and bolted flanges for demanding high- and ultra-high-vacuum duties. The appropriate choice depends on vacuum level, temperature, cleanliness, line size and maintenance requirements.
How do I identify the correct flange size?+
Start with any visible model marking and the flange standard. Measure the relevant outside diameter, tube diameter and bolt pattern where applicable. A photograph beside a ruler and the equipment manual or drawing can help our team confirm the likely size. Do not select solely from the approximate tube diameter because flange naming conventions vary.
Can CAMDA help replace an existing vacuum component?+
Yes. Send the existing model number, photographs, key dimensions, flange type, application and quantity. If the original part is unavailable, our team can review whether a compatible configuration may be suitable. Compatibility must be confirmed before installation.
Which materials are available?+
Many flanges, fittings, hoses and bellows are available in SUS304, with selected components offered in SUS316L or other stated materials. Clamp bodies and hardware may use aluminium alloys, plated steel, stainless steel or engineered polymers depending on the design. Tell us about corrosive media, temperature and cleanliness requirements so the material can be reviewed.
Why are centering rings and seals important?+
The centering ring aligns the sealing element between mating KF or ISO flanges and prevents it from being displaced into the flow path. Seal material and condition affect leakage, chemical compatibility and temperature capability. Reuse should only be considered after inspection and where permitted by the operating procedure.
When should a flexible hose or bellows be used?+
Flexible connections can help accommodate limited misalignment, vibration, movement or installation constraints. They should not be used as an unsupported substitute for correct pipe alignment. Confirm the required length, flange standard, motion direction, cycle conditions and process environment before selection.
Do you supply vacuum valves and repair kits?+
The catalogue includes selected manual and pneumatically actuated vacuum valves, along with maintenance or repair kits for certain valve types. Provide the valve model, port size, actuation method and photographs so availability and compatibility can be checked.
Can I order components for a new custom vacuum system?+
Yes. Share a piping diagram or bill of materials with the required standards, sizes and quantities. CAMDA can help review the component list and identify necessary transitions, clamps, centering rings and flexible sections. Final engineering responsibility remains with the system designer.
